Kendrick Lamar announces his engagement to long time girlfriend.

Kendrick Lamar is engaged to his high school
sweetheart Whitney Alford , the rapper confirmed
to Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club this morning.
Lamar typically keeps his private life out of the
press, but when asked if he put a ring on Alford’s
finger, he kept it honest. “Yeah definitely,” said
Lamar. “I’m loyal to the soil.”
The TDE rapper continued, “At the end of the day,
you want to always have real people around you.
Period. Everybody that’s been around me has
been around me since day one. People that been
by your side, you’re supposed to honor that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Lamar denied
boycotting the Grammys (he was working on To
Pimp a Butterfly) and responded to his album
being "too preachy." The Compton native doesn’t
see it that way.

“I didn’t catch the preachy thing because the
majority of the album is me talking about my
faults, especially records like ‘You Ain’t Gotta Lie
to Kick It’ and ’The Blacker the Berry.’”
